Home is where the heart is

H

In April, I wrote about some of my favourite things. This month, I’ve asked Prairie Girl’s Head Baker; Managing Director;  and Director of Catering & Customer Service, to share some of their favourites and they kindly did so.

Reading their lists – and mine again- it occurred to me that there are definitely themes, themes that I think are pretty universal. None of us included anything of any material value, no one mentioned any gathering bigger than a dozen people, and everything revolved around small daily indulgences like iced coffee and decadent treats such as rigatoni with vodka sauce. Also included were times spent with a special someone ( pizza and wine on Fridays or a holiday weekend with Mom), enjoying nature, greeting pets, playing with young family members,  and taking the time to kick back and do very little of substance.

I know we are not exactly extroverts on PGB’s management team but I think more to the point is that when most people are asked to make a list of what matters most, it often includes things that are close to home and close to the heart.

Some favourite things from Heather, Prairie Girl Bakery Head Baker:

1) Old school Grandma Style Lemon Meringue Pie
2) Fall in Algonquin Park, enjoying the leaves and hiking Centennial Ridges
3) The last turn in the road before arriving at my Mom’s house
4) Greetings from Meo and Gandalf (my cats) when I arrive home for the day
5) Enjoying a bowl of homemade soup in front of a wood burning stove on a cold day
6) The first snowfall of winter
7) The smell of campfire

7 faves from Ailish, Director of Catering & Customer Service:

1. Anything bright pink, especially new clothes
2. Sitting on a dock in Muskoka with friends, cold drink in hand
3. When a new episode of a really good show I’ve been waiting to watch comes on
4. When Sean cooks- especially his rigatoni with vodka sauce
5. Planning a trip, even if it’s months and months away
6. Spending time with my 3 year old nephew- he’s really sassy 🙂
7. Going to a new restaurant with Sean that we have been looking forward to (**and having it live up to the hype)

…and from Carly, PGB’s Managing Director:

1. Going home on Friday after a long week, and drinking a glass of wine and eating pizza with Kevin
2. Going to the gym – sometimes getting there is a struggle, but the way you feel after is worth it
3. Spending time with my little cousins and my nephew
4. Crossing a big project off my To-Do list
5. Finding healthy recipes online, and then making them….or not
6. My morning iced coffee 🙂

What’s on your Favourite Things List??
