President, Prairie Girl Bakery
Jean Blacklock grew up in Saskatchewan. Her parents were entrepreneurs and encouraged Jean and her siblings to always try new things and keep learning. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with degrees in Commerce and in Law. Jean became a partner at a major law firm in Calgary and later joined BMO Financial Group as an executive in wealth management. Her last role at BMO was managing wealth services for BMO Harris Private Banking and as COO of BMO Trust Company.
In 2009 Jean left the corporate world to pursue her dream of starting a business. Prairie Girl Bakery opened the doors of its first store on April 1, 2011, expanded to 5 locations, and then permanently closed its doors midway through the pandemic of 2020-21.
Jean has written four published books: two books on estate planning (Wiley & Co, 2001 and 2010), a leadership book (McGraw Hill, 2006) and The Prairie Girl Cupcake Cookbook (Penguin Random House, 2016).
Jean and her husband, Andrew Auerbach, live in Toronto. They have four adult children and two cats.
